Pemberley

Joy, Leanne, and I piled into "Betsie" for a road trip at 7:20 Saturday morning. We were headed for Lyme Park, in Chestershire to see the iconic Pemberley from the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice.

Our route took us through green, rain-drizzled English countryside.

Traffics jams and bad drivers added almost an hour to hour trip, so when we finally saw the sign for the park after five hours, we squealed. A car park and a staircase away was the house itself.

Everything inside was incredibly ornate–carpeted staircases, embroidered bedspreads, sculptures in the fireplace, sculptures on the ceiling, bathrooms with porcelain tubs, and deep red floor-to-ceiling drapes. They didn't allow photography of the interior because of all the artwork on loan, but I prefer the outside anyway. It's impressive without being ostentatious.

Our brains were inspired; we spent the whole return journey brainstorming a novel series about three sisters living in a great estate house and about their misfortunes, ambitions, mistakes, love, and redemption.

    1. Yes, where is Mr. Darcy? It's what we were all three wondering as we left.
